In 2023, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Subaru presented the sixth generation Forester model and once again proved that it can "bake" new models at an extremely fast pace. Back in 1997, Subaru introduced the first generation Forester and although this model did not become a favorite among fans of this brand, but because it was created on the same platform as the famous Impreza model, it won many hearts. Unlike its rally-winning younger brother, the Forester became an excellent everyday "worker" that does not lead in any weather conditions, plus the car had a very spacious interior. At the same time, it was not a very large SUV, which would scare off some buyers. Over time, the Forester has grown, gained more features, but also many strong competitors. Now it is no longer enough just to have good mileage and a spacious cabin, you will need to bribe buyers with other features as well. Unfortunately, the new Forester has few of them - the car has never been very attractive in its style, and this has not changed with the appearance of the sixth generation Forester. From the profile, the new SUV has retained its angular shapes, which are now accentuated by the angular black rims of the wheel arches. The front-mounted air intakes are similar to those installed on the Subaru WRX model. The black side skirts make the car look like it has more ground clearance than it really is. Subaru installed Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive badges on the rear pillars to remind customers that the Forester has always only been equipped with this drivetrain. With the new shape of LED lights, the car looks attractive, but does not stand out compared to the multitude of other competitors. In the interior, we don't see very big changes either, if we don't read a much larger 11.6-inch LCD screen in the center of the instrument panel. Which, by the way, is only in additional equipment, the standard one uses a 7-inch screen. At a time when most automakers are installing digital dashboards in front of the driver, Subaru is taking a conservative approach and leaving the analog instruments here. Just between the tachometer and the speedometer there is a small screen showing various on-board computer information. The high-mounted front seats are separated by a center console with storage bins and a classic gearshift lever, nothing new here either, as we're used to seeing. In the back, the 60/40 split-folding seat offers plenty of room for three adult passengers – space remains the Forester's strong suit. Under the hood, Subaru installed a 2.5-liter FB25 naturally aspirated engine carried over from the previous generation. Engine power is now slightly reduced to 180 hp (130 kW), while torque has been slightly increased from 239 Nm to 241 Nm and is now available at lower revs. The engine is paired with a CVT (Lineartronic) transmission that sends power to an all-wheel drive system. So the new Subaru Forester doesn't seem like a big step compared to the old model, unfortunately we don't see hybrid versions, interesting technologies or new ergonomic solutions, just new interpretations of old solutions. Of course, Japanese manufacturers are famous for their conservatism, but it is not good if conservatism becomes stagnation.
