With four Polestar models already on the way, their names are already causing confusion, so we'll explain: Polestar 1 is a luxury hybrid sports coupe, Polestar 2 is an electric compact crossover/hatchback, Polestar 3 is a large luxury electric crossover, and Polestar 4 is a small luxury crossover that, according to in terms of size and price, it is positioned between the Polestar 2 and 3 models. Polestar CEO and former Volvo design director Thomas Ingenlath emphasized that both new SUVs will aim to carve out a place in the premium electric SUV market. The large Polestar 3 will cost from £79,000, while the smaller Polestar 4 will start at £55,000. The Polestar 4 is not built on the SPA2 platform, like the new Polestar 3 and Volvo EX90 cars. This car is built on Geely's main platform called Sustainable Experience Architecture. Polestar claims that the Polestar 4 is like a sportier and more athletic version of the Polestar 3 model. Even the design style of the body of the Polestar 4 echoes the design of the larger Polestar 3 - a slightly angular body shape, a slightly more sloping nose of the car, a slightly more sloping roof line, even narrower lights, retractable door handles - both cars are clearly influenced by the Polestar Precept Concept car presented in 2020. True, the design of the new Polestar is not without some interesting features - we will not have a rear window in this crossover. Instead, the driver will rely solely on cameras and side mirrors. "Such a solution provides more space on the rear seats and stylistic uniqueness," said Ingenlath. It will be interesting to hear how customers react to it. The benefits of such a solution will be noticeable - sitting inside you won't miss the rear window at all, especially since the car has a large panoramic roof, the space for the passengers' heads is really better as the designers thought. This solution also increased the trunk space. Although the Polestar 4 is only around 200mm longer than the Polestar 2 at 4839mm, the difference in space inside is huge. A 10.2-inch instrument display is installed in front of the driver, with a horizontal 15.4-inch Google Android touchscreen in the center. The design of the instrument panel and doors is maximally minimalistic, it is expected that the driver will control many functions by voice. The clever use of various textiles and lighting creates a feeling of stylish luxury inside the car. The security systems of the new Polestar are provided with information by 12 cameras, radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors. In this model, Polestar debuts a new suite of high-tech driver assistance systems, including self-driving technology supported by Luminar's advanced LiDAR sensor array and Mobileye software platform. Polestar 4 is also the fastest production model of the company, which reaches 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, and the maximum power of the electric drive reaches as much as 544 hp. Meanwhile, the version with one electric motor will offer a power of 272 hp, a torque of 343 Nm and acceleration to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. Long Range versions are fitted with a 102 kWh battery that will provide a range of up to 560 kilometers for versions with two engines, and a range of up to 600 kilometers for the version with one electric motor. The car's charging capabilities are also solid, supporting up to 200kW of DC and 22kW of AC charging. Interestingly, the standard single-engine model of the Polestar 4 will consume only 21 tonnes of CO2 over its lifetime including production and operation. It is estimated that the electric car will travel a total of 200,000 km. Polestar 4 "Long Range" and twin-engine versions will consume slightly more CO2 - 22 and 23 tons respectively. By comparison, a petrol-powered SUV of similar size, the Volvo XC40, will emit as much as 58 tonnes of CO2 over its life cycle.
