The Ford Cougar was a mid-size coupe car sold in the European market. The car was named a “muscle car” in honor of the Mercury Cougar model. It was originally intended to be a third-generation Probe, but it was later decided to give it a new name. Cougar was already the third intention to introduce a sporty coupe in the European market. Previously, a successful Ford Capri was produced here, followed by a Probe based on the Mazda MX-6 base. This time, the Cougar was produced on the base of a larger family car, the Ford Mondeo. Reviews of the Cougar have been controversial in part because of a new design style called the New Edge. Therefore, unlike its famous ancestor Capri, Cougar sales have never been high.
