Introduced in 2004, the new S40 (sedan) and V50 (station wagon) are built on the new Volvo P1 platform. This chassis also uses common units with other cars - Mazda3 and Ford Focus. The S40 was nominated in the 2005 World Car Elections. The linear 5-cylinder engines used in the S40 / V50 are developed from the Volvo 850 model. The most powerful S40 has a T5 2.4 L 5-cylinder transverse engine with 220 hp (164 kW), 320 Nm of torque and all-wheel drive. Buyers love the quality of the interior, the excellent quality of the assembly, the comfort, the good handling of the car and all this for a relatively low price.
