The third-generation Ford Fiesta was the first version with a 5-door hatchback - one of the reasons for its success in the European market. The design of the car was typical of a Ford of the time with large headlights, large turn signals and elegant drop-shaped headlights. The car was similar to its bigger brothers - the Ford Escort, the Sierra and even the big Ford Scorpio. Inside, the car was simple and functional - the style of round shapes had not yet become popular, so the design was dominated by strict and functional shapes. The Fiesta could be ordered with a skylight, cassette player, air conditioning and power windows. Ford offered fuel-efficient engines - a range of petrol units and one diesel. They were all mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. What’s interesting is that the Ford company installed sporty versions even in such a small car. In 1989, a version of the XR2i was released with an eight-valve CVH engine with 104 hp (76 kW). The Fiesta RS Turbo version was introduced in 1990 and manufactured until 1992. The RS Turbo engine had the same 1.6 L displacement as the XR2i, but with a lower compression ratio and of course only a slightly smaller turbine than the Ford Escort RS Turbo. As with the Ford Escort, the Fiesta had a built-in intercooler and produced 133 hp at 5,500 rpm, with torque of 183 Nm at 2,400 rpm. These two sporty versions of the Fiesta were later replaced by the RS1800 version of the Fiesta with an atmospheric 1.8-liter Zetec engine with a maximum output of 130 hp.
