The second-generation Previa had a slightly longer wheelbase (2,900 mm), was narrower (1,790 mm) and shorter (1,770 mm) than the first-generation, and the engine design became traditional - front-mounted. The Previa was based on the Camry platform and was produced with a passenger door on both sides and could accommodate up to eight passengers. The models sold in Europe had petrol or diesel 4-cylinder engines. The diesel engine was 2.0 L with 116 hp (85 kW) and the petrol 2.4 L with 156 hp (115 kW). Both models had a standard 5-speed manual transmission.
Since 2001, hybrid versions of Toyota Previa with Hybrid Synergy Drive have been produced in Japan. It was the world’s first hybrid minivan.
