The iconic BMW 5 series, beloved by the BMW company and loved by all Lithuanians, has finally been presented. What did he bring us? The eighth generation of the BMW 5 Series is technologically perhaps the biggest change in the entire history of this model. Of course, this is due to the electric version of the i5. In addition to the electric i5 model, the fifth series continues to be offered with gasoline engines, mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions and several diesel versions. While some of BMW's models in recent years have received bold and, in the opinion of many (and in our opinion) extremely badass design style, the latest 5 Series looks much more traditional. There are no oversized front grilles, burnt-out headlights or non-functional muffler tips, but kitsch fans won't be disappointed either - they can order an illuminated front grille frame for an additional fee. Of course, the designers and accountants from Munich will not take risks with perhaps the most important model of the company. The new five has a moderate, yet stylish design with sculptural forms that emphasize the car's mass and solid stance. The true model of this generation is somewhat reminiscent of the BMW E60 fifth in its style - maybe not so much in design details as in the overall design language. Although similar details can be found, such as folded headlights. In short, the newbie looks great with a uniquely shaped hood like we've already seen on the BMW M3 model, a particularly stylish rear end, especially compared to its closest competitor, the Mercedes E-Class, which is an evolutionary and rather conservative design car. This is in no way a criticism of Mercedes, it's just different. The car has become even bigger - it's 10cm longer and three centimeters wider than the previous model, with an extra 20mm added to the wheelbase, so rear-seat passengers should have a bit more legroom. Better sound insulation, high-quality materials and new modern digital services and functions will contribute to better comfort. The trunk of the car is slightly smaller compared to its predecessor - 520 liters, the trunk space of the electric i5 model is even smaller, which reaches 490 liters, but it is larger than the 430 liters of the Mercedes EQE electric car. The car has become larger, so the darkly painted threshold and rear bumper visually somewhat hide the large mass of the 5 series. BMW continues to offer a dual screen layout on the dashboard. The curved panel houses a 12.3-inch driver display and to the right, a larger 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. It is also possible to order the interactive "BMW Interactive bar", which extends across the front of the cabin, as well as on the front doors. It performs not only the function of interior lighting, but also has integrated touch-sensitive controls with the help of which passengers can adjust ventilation and seat settings. It's nice to have physical buttons on the steering wheel that you need to press, which makes it much easier to control functions without taking your eyes off the road. The main novelty of the new generation fifth is known to be the electric BMW i5 model. It is offered in two versions - BMW i5 eDrive40 and BMW i5 M60 xDrive. The first of them has a 250 kW/340 hp engine, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6 seconds, and to drive at a maximum speed of 193 km/h. Meanwhile, the wheels of the sporty M60 xDrive are driven by a 442 kW/601 hp power unit, with which the electric car reaches 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 230 km/h. Both versions feature the same 81.2 kWh battery, as well as a new generation adaptive energy recovery system that is designed to heat or cool the car's interior, drivetrain and battery. Thanks to these solutions, the weaker electric version covers a distance of up to 497-582 km (according to WLTP) on a single charge, and the more powerful one - 455-516 km. The car has the "Max range" function, which increases the driving distance by up to 25 percent. This is achieved by limiting engine power and driving speed and deactivating comfort functions. In addition to the electric i5 model, three versions with internal combustion engines are offered - the 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline BMW 520i with a 153 kW/208 hp engine, and two diesels - the BMW 520d and BMW 520d xDrive with a 2.0-liter 145 kW /197 hp engine.
