Volvo EX30, 2023 - present
We finally got the small Volvo electric car. It's a really interesting car, because the market for small premium electric cars is not yet saturated, and the Volvo brand is one that seems to be moving in the right direction and the company's new cars are always very interesting. The Volvo EX30 is a sweet-looking car with typical Scandinavian styling that looks great from every angle. The front of the crossover is not overloaded with details - hammer-shaped headlights decorated with a simple but attractive design of LED lights dominate here, we see a large Volvo logo, and a grid hidden in the black area below is designed to cool the battery. The sides of the car are "decorated" with strongly expressed wheel arches, a strongly concave plane of the doors and black thresholds matching the black roof, which visually reduces the height of the car. At the rear, we see the high-mounted taillights characteristic of the Volvo brand. Nothing very new, but everything is integrated into a perfectly coordinated whole with perfect body proportions. Inside we see a refined, minimalistic Scandinavian style interior. The quality of the materials is not bad - the nice plastic with a grainy design on the top of the dashboard and around the center console looks of good quality. The elevated driving position and excellent visibility in all directions will provide pleasure when driving in the city. Using one pedal is surprisingly intuitive and feels completely natural once you get used to it. Volvo has always been known for extremely comfortable seats and the EX30 model continues this tradition. There is only one control on the side of the seats that controls all the seat positions. Between the driver and the front passenger there are several large storage compartments with wireless phone charging and removable cup holders. Separately, the ascetic design of the doors should be mentioned, where we will not find any controls for windows, side mirrors, or speakers, only a convenient door opening handle made of aluminum. It's nice, but maybe Volvo overstepped the mark here, because let's say the mirror control is available through the info system and then adjusted using the buttons on the steering wheel, and the window control is installed in the central console. Also, there's no screen in front of the driver, so you'll have to look at the screen on the right to monitor your speed - a contrast to Volvo's mission to make cars as safe as possible. The overall interior design is cool and attractive, but it comes at the expense of some comfort. Don't worry about the Harman Kardon speakers, though - Volvo has placed them in a strip under the windscreen, which is probably a lot better than the speakers in the doors pointing at your feet. The car is of course small, which means limited space in the rear seats, especially if the driver will be taller than average. The square-shaped trunk has only 318 liters of space, which increases to 904 liters when the seats are folded down, and there is a cavity in the floor to store electrical cables. As for the recycled materials used in the car, Volvo says 25 percent of the aluminum in the car is recycled, along with 17 percent of the steel and 17 percent of the plastic. At just 4233mm long, the little Volvo is basically the same size as the Volkswagen T-Roc, so it'll be a second family car that gets a lot of mileage. The Volvo EX30 is the first Volvo car to feature the next-generation Park Pilot Assist function, which helps you park in any parking space – parallel, perpendicular or diagonal. This system identifies available parking spaces around the car, then by tapping on the desired parking space on the screen, the system will help you enter it by controlling the accelerator, brakes and steering wheel. For drivers who spend most of their time in the city, the EX30 version is offered with a single electric motor and an LFP battery. Those wishing to maximize the driving distance can choose the EX30 Single Motor Extended Range version with an NMC battery. This version can cover up to 480 km between charges with a single electric motor. Drivers who prefer dynamics can choose the Twin Motor Performance version with two electric motors and an NMC-type battery. This all-wheel drive version has an output of 315 kW (428 hp) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. Unbelievably, this is the fastest accelerating Volvo car in the history of the company! It's true that even the standard version accelerates in 5.3 seconds - that's enough for any "racer". The Twin Motor version with NMC battery can be charged up to 153 kW, and the version with LFP battery up to 134 kW. Hence the battery from 10 to 80 percent. charge level can be charged in just under half an hour.
